Policy,
Procedure and Guideline development within Organisations
In
our experience of services we have seen many individuals and
organisations struggle in this important area. Very often documents
that have been developed within organisations are unclear, outdated,
and written in different styles and language. In addition to
this, many organisations do not have effective implementation
or audit systems with regard to this crucial area. Too often
we have seen the real cost of inadequate
policy, procedure and guideline development to organisations
from a practice and financial perspective. Inadequate documents,
poorly written documents and / or the absence of documents in
particular contribute to severe financial
awards being imposed against organisations in cases of
litigation.
In assisting organisations to improve their governance in this
area, we have developed a range of supports, which aim to facilitate
best practice when developing, implementing and auditing policies,
procedures and guidelines. We offer three specific options in
this area, notably: -
1. Implementing a comprehensive system
of policy, procedure and guidelines within organisations
2. Two day training programme for staff on policies, procedures
and guidelines
3. Assisting organisations to develop specific policy, procedure
or guideline documents
Option 1.
Implementing a comprehensive system of policy, procedure
and guidelines within organisations
This support includes: -
* Devising a strategy for policy, procedures and guideline development,
implementation and audit, with the senior management of an organisation
* Clarifying whether the organisation requires policies, procedures
or guidelines in particular areas
* Assisting the organisation meet its requirements
in accordance with accreditation
*Agreeing a standardised template for all organisational documents
*Agreeing on who develops, approves, implements, audits and
reviews all documents
*Agreeing a process for documentation control
*Delivering practical skills based training to staff
*Provision of ongoing consultancy support to the organisation
Option
2.
Two day training programme for staff on policies, procedures
and guidelines
This training package is skills based, with a focus on
developing staff competency in policy, procedure and
guideline development. The programme has been delivered to numerous
organisations, groups and individuals nationally, and we have
been commended consistently for the skills that people learn
on this programme.
This training can be delivered in-house or alternatively
staff can attend one of our regular workshops.
Option 3.
Assisting organisations to develop specific documents
With this option we provide a consultant to assist organisations
develop a specific document (s) that they require. This option
has worked particularly well
a. When organisations require external facilitation due to
disagreement on the content or structure of a document
b. When internal conflict limits the development of policies,
procedures and guidelines
c. When organisations require a document to be completed
speedily to meet their needs
d. When organisations require an external level of expertise
in developing a document
